Indigenous Events in August!

Hey everyone! Summer is halfway over, and you know what that means – we need to make the most of the long days left! As most of these Indigenous events are in Vancouver, you can also check out this link for more events throughout BC:


The Art of Dimension at the Bill Reid Gallery

From July 8 – October 15, 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Cost: Free for Indigenous Peoples, $13 for non-Indigenous adults, $6 for non-Indigenous youth

Location: Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, 639 Hornby St, Vancouver, BC V6C 2G3

The art lovers in your family will love this brand-new showcase at the Bill Reid Gallery! The Art of Dimension highlights the stunning metal carvings of Haida Gwaii’s Skil Xaaw Jesse Brillon, as well as Haida and Cree artist Haayłingtso Marlo Wylie Brillon. Be sure to support these phenomenal artists and their precious carvings!

3rd Annual International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards Show 2023

August 11 & 12, varying times

Cost: Varying ticket costs

Location: Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2P1

The International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards Show is a perfect fit for any teenagers (or older!) who love music and hip hop! Featuring a massive array of performers, including Dakota Bear and DJ Kookum; this show is sure to be a ton of fun for the music lovers in your family.

Circles Festival

August 26, 1:00pm – 10:00pm

Cost: Free RSVP

Location: Sunset Beach 1204 Beach Ave Vancouver, BC V6E 1V3

This is the event of the summer! Circles Festival is the first ever Indigenous Youth Music and Arts Festival in Vancouver, open to all ages! If you are looking to enjoy Indigenous music, hip hop artists, Indigenous vendors and small businesses, traditional foods, youth workshops, and children’s play areas, then this is for you. Bring the whole family to Sunset Beach Park to enjoy this free event (just don’t forget to RSVP!).

Rooted Relations

August 17, 6:00pm – 10:00pm

Cost: Free!

Location: Grandview Park 1657 Charles St Vancouver, BC V5L 2T4

Join a collective of Indigenous artists and storytellers in a social gathering on August 17 in Grandview Park. This event is great for Indigenous artists and peoples who are looking to strengthen their relationships and sense of community.


Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival

August 12, 1:00pm – 10:00pm

Cost: Free!

Location: Deer Lake Park, 5435 Sperling Ave, Burnaby BC V5E 2L8

Enjoy Jazz and Blues at this free festival. The headliner of this event is the iconic Buffy Sainte-Marie! It is sure to be an exciting day!
