If you’ll be in downtown Vancouver between now and October 31st, make sure to stop by Turtle Island Design and Lifestyle – or TIDAL for short – the city’s very first Indigenous women-led pop-up shop. Today’s post will highlight what we have learned about the store since its grand opening and hopefully motivate some of you to check it out over the summer!

TIDAL, located in Bentall Centre on Burrard Street, opened its doors on June 10th, offering a wide collection of products that celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage. On the hunt for Indigenous hot sauces or wellness blends? They’ve got it! In need of natural soaps and bath products? They’ve got that too! On the lookout for beautifully designed t-shirts or hoodies? You guessed it – they’ve got it all. As the shop shared on their Instagram, “From Copper Canoe Woman Jewelry & Design, wellness blends from Bear Essential Oils, spicy goodness from Sriracha Revolver, and bath luxuries from Ravensong, to books, stickers, and cards from talented Indigenous storytellers artists – we’ve got something meaningful for everyone.”
What’s even more impressive than TIDAL’s wide variety of products is the team of four Indigenous women – each with their own successful businesses – behind its creation.

Alissa Assu, the owner of West Coast Wildflowers, Bear Essential Oils and RavenSong Soap & Candle, is a member of the Wet'suwet'en First Nation and belongs to the Laksamshu Clan.

Joining her is Vina Brown, the Nuučaan̓uɫ and Haíłzaqv founder of Copper Canoe Woman.

Interested in trying one of the store’s signature hot sauces? That’s the work of Jordan Hocking, a member of the Sweetgrass First Nation and the founder of Sriracha Revolver Hot Sauce.

And rounding out the team is Sade Makerra Auger, a Cree First Nations woman and the creative force behind Hawk Lace.
Together, these four women have not only created an amazing pop up store in downtown Vancouver but also built a space to uplift Indigenous culture and entrepreneurship.
If you’re not in Vancouver until after October 31st, you can still support these incredible women online. Their products are also available on their individual websites, so you can check them out anywhere and any time.
TIDAL is open Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Whether you’re looking to shop local, support Indigenous-owned businesses, or find a product that is meaningful for you, I hope that you’re able to visit TIDAL before it closes in the fall.
