Indigenous History Month 2026

June is here, bringing with it Indigenous History Month. This month, we take time to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization, deepen our understanding of reconciliation, and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of the Indigenous and First Peoples of these lands.

If you’ve taken some time to look into it yourself, you might have noticed some places and websites are beginning to use the term Indigenous Peoples’ Month instead. This change is meant to recognize and acknowledge that Indigenous peoples are not just part of history, but that they and their cultures remain.

If you’re in British Columbia within reach of Whistler, The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Líl̓wat7úl Cultural Centre is hosting several markets and events throughout June. If you are not near Whistler, check out Indigenous Tourism BC for lots more events in the province. Outside BC, Heritage Park in Calgary will be celebrating hard this year with storytellings, traditional music and dances, markets full of Indigenous artworks, and more!

While we would like to highlight more, there are just far too many to list. It’s a busy month! And we’re very happy to see all of June filled with Indigenous pride. To check out other events across Canada, the Government of Canada website has a comprehensive database of events nationwide. While we continue to urge for more Indigenous-based resources, we also want to make sure nothing gets missed and everyone is able to find events near them. We hope you find time to celebrate and commemorate Indigenous culture, history, resilience and identity this June! Happy Indigenous Peoples Month!" or something.
