The Summer Flowers of Our West Coast - A poem by Khoa Vo

Writer's picture: indigenoustutoringindigenoustutoring

For those of us who are living on BC’s West Coast, I hope we all can enjoy the beauty of nature that our coast has to offer. With the sun shining as we are outside in nature, let us take a moment to enjoy the flowers, the trickling of the streams and the Salmon that spawns while struggling to go upstream. Continuing the recent theme of poetry on the blog, this original poem was written in reflection of where I am living and my appreciation of the beauty that the land offers.

The sun is shining on BC’s Coast.

The salmon rushes downstream. Splash. Towards the ocean.

The flowers bloom.

The clouds are coming on BC’s Coast.

The salmon rests. Serene. In the Stream.

The berries emerge.

The salmon rushes upstream. Splatter. Towards the river.

Salal berries. Salmonberries. For all to eat.

Night is here. The berries are gone. The salmon sleeps.
