About ITMP
When was ITMP founded?
ITMP was created in January 2021.
Why was it created?
To address the discrepancy in educational resources available to Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
What is the aim of the program?
The aim of this program is to provide free educational tutoring and mentoring to Indigenous students to help students reach their learning goals, increase graduation rates and support pursuit of post secondary education for students who are interested. By providing free tutoring to Indigenous students both on and off reserve, as well as mentoring tailored to the needs of the student, we hope to close the gap in education and aid in increasing Indigenous representation across the various workforces and specialties.

Connects students with tutors proficient in the topic required by the student.

Students are met with 1-2x a week for 30min -1 h depending on the age and needs of the student.

Meetings occur over Zoom or the student's preferred video conferencing app

Tutors are required to complete criminal record checks and training

Our mentoring program targets goal formation and soft skill development.

The aim of mentoring is to allow students to become self-sufficient and develop the skills and resources to continue learning without tutoring.

Mentors can also assist with career planning by talking with first generation university students, helping students learn how to look for scholarships, etc.

Advocacy
This aspect of the program aims is to support Indigenous students and parents by sharing information about funding, cultural opportunities, and online resources that may be available to them.

Funding: ITMP shares upcoming scholarships, grants and opportunities for Indigenous individuals on our blog, newsletter and website.

Cultural opportunities: ITMP offers student workshops (beading, Pow wow, etc.) and highlights relevant community events in our newsletter and blog!
- Online resources (in development): ITMP shares links to online resources about the lands, cultures, and languages of First Peoples and the 94 Calls to Action.
